Savannah begins where the horizon becomes important.
Grass, water, shade, weather, migration, and distance establish the field. No single point of view governs it. Things may disappear into the grass. Herds may gather and separate. Paths may emerge through repeated passage. What is near may become distant, and what appeared distant may arrive sooner than expected.
The inhabitants of Savannah are afforded room appropriate to their nature.
They move, gather, rest, pursue, conceal themselves, defend territory, seek water, and occasionally take an interest in things that have taken an interest in them.
Not every encounter is arranged in advance.
This is intentional.
Savannah is bounded and observed, but it is not staged. The field is permitted to develop locally without ceasing to remain a field.
Predation remains predation.
Territory remains territory.
A shadow in the grass remains, pending further information, a shadow in the grass.
Visitors should nevertheless remember that an open field is not the same thing as an empty one.
The Savannah is monitored.
The Savannah is bounded.
The Savannah is, by every reasonable measure, under control.
